Let’s Break Ground!

Once your vision has met the pavement of reality in terms of financing and feasibility, and once the design and permitting processes are complete, you can bring out a sparkling new shovel and break ground on your congregation’s fabulous new future.

In many instances, preliminary excavation must be done of the site before the actual layout of the building foundations begins. The site excavation prepares the building site for all future construction activity. Site access may be required, existing trees may require removal or relocation, and site leveling may be necessary to provide drainage. The rate of excavation is contingent upon the weather.

Once the bulk of the excavation is complete, construction can begin on the building itself. The Supervisor of Construction oversees all aspects of the project in order to ensure that everything gets done appropriately and on time. The subcontractors and in-house tradesmen all coordinate to see that the project is realized in its entirety.

All work that is done must be in accordance with the drawings and specifications as prepared by the civil engineer and architect.

At the end of the process, both the civil engineer and the architect will go to the site one last time to certify that construction was done in accordance with their plans. If all is well, the final certificate of occupancy will be issued.
